What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Email Addresses

This site may collect your email address, but only if you voluntarily provide it to us. This may occur, for example, if you sign up to receive an email newsletter, or enter a contest or promotion.  We will use your email address for the purposes for which you provided it to us, and also from time to time to send you emails regarding this website or other products or services that we believe may be of interest to you.  You may opt out of such email communications at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” button in the email.

We will not knowingly share your email address with any third parties.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

This site uses a contact form plugin to capture your name and email when you request to be contacted.  Your information will be kept on file for an indefinite amount of time for customer service purposes. This information may be used by marketing purposes by The Healthy Campers and will not be shared.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

This site uses Google analytics package to track where our readers are from. Our site is hosted by Dreamhost who may collect some anonymous analytical data for their own purposes. If you use this website, you are agreeing to this anonymous data to website traffic and usage.

Who we share your data with

Any part of our website may contain a widget or plug-in from a 3rd party. If you knowingly add your personal information into any part of this website, you could be providing it to that vendor as well as The Healthy Campers. Please be aware that all of our widgets, plug-ins and anything we use are from common sources used throughout the blogging and website industry, however, they may collect the date that you voluntarily provide The Healthy Campers when using our website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive a file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through a third party automated spam detection service.

GDPR & European Economic Area Residents

If you live in a country in the European Economic Area (EEA),  under the GDPR and applicable data protection laws you have the rights, among other things, to access your personal data, have us erase it, and/or restrict its further processing.  If you wish to access or delete your personal data (if any) maintained by The Healthy Campers related to advertising on our website, you can contact us at thehealthycampers.  If you wish to see a list of the advertising partners we work with or change which of those partners track your behavior using cookies, please contact us by email.
